About me
NB. Video showreels of my work will be available to view soon.I began my singing and music training in 1991 in London, which led to studying for a music and English Degree in 1994, followed by private drama training and further MA drama studies and training in 2010.
In former years, I had worked in West End theatre and TV production as production co-ordinator.
I am a soprano singer with a wide vocal range and cross-genre agility, trained to sing opera and classical works and jazz. I also sing Sondheim, folk, world music, R&B/rock and other contemporary songs and I've brought my unique style to highly enjoyable projects, working with top UK based musicians.
Pre Covid19 lockdown 2020, I had been working towards a short song cycle by Poulenc, ‘La Courte Paille’, plus a French Classical Composers of Arts Songs concert in collaboration with modern ballet dancers, which I still aim to perform in the future. And I have a bunch of Sondheim and other humorous songs waiting to be worked on.
In 2019, I recorded an album of Faure, Poulenc and Chausson Songs, accompanied by Lydia Newlands on piano and joined by Rose Bellingham, Mezzo Soprano for two duets on the album, ‘La Tarantelle’ and ‘Puis Qu’ici Bas’.
removed co-formed Amici Cantabile, an opera quintet made up of professional, semi-professional and amateur opera singer colleagues. I was one of two sopranos. We performed solos and ensembles in our own concerts in London. Ensemble pieces included the pirates quintet from ‘Carmen’, the ‘Fidelio’ quartet, and other works in Russian, Italian and English. Arias included 'Russalka's Song to the Moon'.
In 2016, I also sang, with a semi-professional rock band as lead vocalist, on covers and original songs written by the band and provided the harmony line for some numbers. We played at private functions and in public venues.
In my own concerts and gigs, I like to bring an informative and anecdotal element, for the sake of the song and to give the audience some background to the songs, composer, singer etc.
My work has included corporate and private function entertainment, charity concerts, commercials and music theatre productions.
My acting and voice work has so far included short films, community theatre productions, charity panto and revues and literary events readings.
I am also a vocal coach and singing teacher for individuals and groups, working in this capacity since the 1990s, coaching professionals, and teaching children and beginner adults including those with health issues and learning difficulties, and those with Dementia. And I have also taught voice and text for Shakespeare plays and those interested in learning to read the texts.
Additional skills:
Shakespeare Text workshops for developing the voice, analysing and understanding speeches and characters.
I've written a radio drama based on historic facts around WW2 France.
I like to write poetry and short stories.
Additional information:
I started my training and my singing career in my mid-30s after working for 5 years in theatre and TV production. I have performed alongside world class musicians, actors and singers and intend to ever develop my skills and work using my knowledge and training of using the voice and my love of performance.
